Beware the Unqualified Diagnosis

The “unqualified diagnosis” of people at work is alive and well. Every day in my coaching practice I find leaders who are totally unqualified claiming deep psychological insights into their people.

  • “She has trust issues from childhood”
  • “He has a deep fear of connecting”
  • “She won’t allow herself to be vulnerable”

A little understanding of human behaviour can turn itself into a dangerous unqualified weapon of unqualified diagnosis.

Beware …. Unqualified diagnosis is often just Judgement In Disguise.

In leadership, as in life, we must quest to see life from multiple perspectives and minimise our assumptions about others.

Great leaders seek to understand through quality coaching conversations.
