Holiday Blues: 5 Things To Ask the Team Before Their Vacation

My favourite comment this week was by a participant in a team workshop. When asked to write goals for the day and the rest of the year they said:

“My goal is to feel energised at the end of the year”

This time of year tends to elicit comments about ‘limping towards Christmas’. As we hurry to get everything done we often forget to pay attention to the conversations that matter.

Instead of merely surviving the final weeks, we can use this time to identify key achievements and areas of underperformance; and create a powerful opportunity for the New Year.

Here are five questions to ask your team before you rush off on holidays!

  1. What are you most proud of this year?
  2. What was your key area of focus and did you achieve it?
  3. When were you at your best?
  4. How did you contribute to the team this year?
  5. What did you do for the customer this year?

These are just thought starters. Make up your own questions that are relevant to you and the team.

Take the time to check in and acknowledge the year with some simple reflective questions. I promise you it’s the little things that make the material difference in a team.

Let me know how you go.
