What thinking time have you had this week?

If your diary is back-to-back meetings, the answer is probably very little.

We have all experienced the feeling of being on autopilot, a slave to our diary: questioning if we should actually be in this meeting. But do we stop and think enough about the impact?

What is the impact on you? On your team? On the business?

A meeting dense calendar perpetuates the ways of yesterday, maintains status quo, focuses on the here and now – providing limited opportunity for solving for tomorrow.

Creating space to stop and think, is a proven antidote for leading in today’s ambiguous and complex world. It affords us the ability to reflect, learn, iterate and innovate, and respond to the constant changes and challenges we all experience.

What are our thoughts?

The symbiotic relationship between learning and leadership is not a new concept. Many have espoused that learning is the essence of what it means to being human, and therefore vital for our success as an individual, team or organisation.

With artificial intelligence challenging this very notion, and mimicking the ability to reflect and iterate, what is still distinctly human, is reflexivity – or the ability to reflect on one’s own thoughts, feelings and behaviours – to adapt and improve one’s performance.

By creating time and space to reflect not only on the situation, but also our role within any given environment, leads to better decision making, stronger relationships and more successful outcomes.
